For many years it was considered standard to maintain a low profile within the classical music scene. The emphatic composers who constantly allowed their emotions to erupt had a very difficult time. However, this has changed over the years, and Edward Elgars warm and melodically charged Cello Concerto – long considered to be behind the times – once again sounds modern and fresh. Sol Gabetta recently released a highly praised recording of the work and on Easter Sunday 2014 the cellist will make her debut with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.
